Robert frustrated about universal?
FRUSTRATED?

5/17/2008 12:41:56 AM - by CURE:ROBERT

Rang up my local record shop (YES I still call them that) and asked if they had the new CURE single yet, he said"when is it out??"
I had to tell him all about it...

YOU'RE FRUSTRATED?
IMAGINE HOW WE FEEL!
THE BEAUTY OF THE MIGHTY UNIVERSAL GETTING US OUT THERE AND IN THE SHOPS... YEAH!

ANYWAY
ITS AN ONGOING THING...

MAYBE THE NEXT ONE WILL BE FOUND IN A FEW MORE PLACES... ?
(the sound of not holding breath)

ITS AN ONGOING THING...

LIKE MAKING THIS WEBSITE LOOK AND FEEL LIKE THE ONLY ONE...

SOON
PLEASE
SOON!

ITS AN ONGOING THING...

CHICAGO!
RSX

PS
THE NEW ALBUM 'SINGLE OR DOUBLE?' DEBATE...

I JUST FEEL ON REFLECTION THAT MAKING THE NEW ALBUM A 'SINGLE' (WHATEVER THAT MEANS... 8 TRACKS? 13 TRACKS? 21 TRACKS?!!) WILL BE SOMEHOW 'BETTER' - MORE COHERENT - MORE IN TUNE WITH THE BAND AS IT IS...
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE LABEL - THEY ARE HAPPY(?!!) TO TRUST ME WHATEVER WE DECIDE...

AND ANYWAY (BIG CLAIM ALERT!) EVERYTHING WE RECORDED DURING THE NEW ALBUM SESSIONS WILL GET RELEASED - IN THE REAL WORLD NOT JUST AS DIGITAL...

THAT DARK SECOND ALBUM FOR CHRISTMAS MAY NOT BE AS FANCIFUL AS I THINK?!!

ONWARDS...

He revealed this amongst other things:
"But the big epic, downbeat tracks will be saved for a possible very unhappy Christmas album."

MTV UK Interview with Robert
From MTV UK:

EXCLUSIVE | Robert Smith talks to MTV News about the band’s new material…

The Cure have announced details of their new 13th album and four singles that will precede it.
Frontman with the band Robert Smith talked exclusively to MTV News about the plan: “Because it’s the 13th studio album I thought let’s introduce the number and see what we can do with it.”
“I thought lets have four singles and release them on the 13th of every month then release the album.”
From today (May 13) The Cure will bring out a new track on the 13th of each month starting with The Only One- they will then release their album on September 13.

Smith added that MTV encouraged the unusual idea: “When I put this to our dear label they said ‘you can’t possibly do that it’s ridiculous,’” He said.
“And then someone from MTV- very high-up- sent an email to me and said ‘this is a great idea.’ Then the label went ‘actually it’s a really great idea.’”
The Cure were working on a double album and according to Robert they’ve recorded 33 songs but decided to make a single upbeat disc.
The frontman explained to MTV News: “I always wanted to have this as the 13th Cure album- it’s 30 years since we did the first one, I just wanted it to be a big thing to mark the occasion.”

LOOK OUT FOR A FULL INTERVIEW WITH THE CURE ON MTV.CO.UK SOON

New interview with Robert
A fan got the chance to meet and interview Robert:

"Ok, first the bad news. Robert confirms that the album will be a single, not a double. Now the good news. He also confirmed that he is working with Tim Pope on a 30th Anniversary dvd, and he seems to indicate that there will be a Prayer Tour show video released, though he says it's from Texas Stadium, which they didn't play in 89. That was the Wish tour in 92. Fingers & toes crossed that it's a Prayer Tour show. Now, on to the interview:

"I had the incredible opportunity Saturday night to meet and interview Robert Smith of the Cure, thanks to 104.5 FM in Philadelphia! The station had a contest where fans submit 10 questions to ask Robert and my submission was chosen!

Despite the fact that I was awfully nervous at the start, it was a fantastic interview. We talked about the new stripped down lineup, the future for The Cure, youtube, Robert's sly way of releasing a double album, the possiblity of solo material, the forthcoming remasters, and more. And we laughed a whole lot more than you'd probably expect."

Robert clears some things up! (or?)
Robert posted this on the official site yesterday:
"THE MAJOR CONFUSION

5/7/2008 1:45:12 PM - by CURE:ROBERT

A FEW OF THE MORE IRRITATING FALSEHOODS FLOATING AROUND...

1)
"THERE IS A "SPECIAL VERSION" OF THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE""

NO THERE ISN'T
ANYONE THAT OFFERS OR CLAIMS ANY KIND OF "SPECIAL" VERSION OF THE FIRST SINGLE - WITH A BOX OR A FREE HOLIDAY OR WHATEVER - IS EITHER LYING OR STUPID
OR BOTH

2)
"THERE IS NO USA VERSION OF THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE""

YES THERE IS
ITS JUST THE MIGHTY UNIVERSAL CANT GET IT TOGETHER TO EITHER
A) GET AMAZON ETC TO LIST IT
OR
B) GET IT OUT ON THE 13TH... IT WILL BE AVAILABLE AT $2.99 (OR THEREABOUTS) FROM MAY 20TH

APPARENTLY "NO-ONE BUYS CD'S ANYMORE"...
UNSURPRISING IF THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE EH?!!

3)
"X,Y OR Z HAVE 'EXCLUSIVE X,Y OR Z' REGARDING THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE""

NO THEY DON'T
IT WILL BE AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE
IT IS NOT EXCLUSIVE TO ANY RETAILER

AND...

NO...
THATS IT FOR NOW!

BUT I AM SURE I WILL BE BACK..

RSX"

it's seems like the 20th is the new date for the single in the US, but it's a different version!

THE CURE TO RELEASE NEW SINGLES
Finally the in the official news:

THE CURE TO RELEASE NEW SINGLES THE 13TH OF EACH MONTH LEADING UP TO THE RELEASE OF THEIR 13TH STUDIO ALBUM

BAND GEARS UP FOR US TOUR KICKING OFF MAY 9TH

Santa Monica, California, May 1, 2008- The Cure, one of the most revered British bands of the past quarter-century, have unveiled their plans to release four A & B side singles, one each month starting May 13th, leading up to the release of their thirteenth studio album, as yet untitled, which will be out on Suretone/Geffen Records September 13th. It will be the band's first album of new music since 2004’s self titled album The Cure. Physical and digital singles will be available for purchase in store and on all digital partners.

Why the 13th of each month? The forthcoming album is The Cure’s thirteenth studio album... A lucky number indeed!

First single “The Only One” (released May 13th) includes the b-side “NY Trip”; second single “Freakshow” (released June 13th) includes the b-side "All Kinds Of Stuff"; neither b-side will appear on the album. Both tracks were produced by Robert Smith and Keith Uddin. July 13th and August 13th singles will be announced shortly...

Single releases confirmed!
100% confirmed by Universal.

"Universal is going to announce full info on april 28th, 2008.
There will be 4 tracks released from the album in the lead up to its release in September - one a month for the next 4 months. A physical CD single and digital download will be made available simultaneously. The single versions are edits (each will have Mix 13 on the artwork per the attached) and not the album versions. None of the B sides will appear on the album.
The b-side on The Only One will be a song called Ny Trip".

Cure in LA, mastering new album
Unconfirmed Rumours:

"The Cure were in Los Angeles on April 21, 2008 at the Mastering Lab in Los Angeles.
Brian Gardner mastered the new album.
Robert Smith mixed it.
The new album will be a double.
I heard this personally from a source that was with The Cure, listening to their new album."

Ok, so if true, the album is done. So why is Universal holding it until September? They must have a good reason, right?

Universal now has the new album scheduled for release on Sept. 16th in the US.

Album news!!
With thirty-three songs recorded for the Cure's thirteenth album, the band is still figuring out which tracks to submit to the label.
The title of the album is yet to be decided but Robert says this in the new issue of ROlling Stone magazine:

"There's some very, very downbeat seven-minute songs and some very upbeat ones," singer Robert Smith says. "One voice is saying, 'Put out the most commercial-sounding CD and draw people into the Cure world again.' There's another voice saying, 'Fuck that, let's just put out the doom and gloom.'"
At least one tune will almost definitely make the cut: "Sleep When I'm Dead," a recently unearthed demo from 1985's The Head On The Door. "It sounds genuinely 1980's," Smith says. "I don't think that's a bad thing. It's part of our heritage."

News from Robert
8/7/2007 10:49:30 AM - by CURE:ROBERT

AIIIIIEEEEEE!
SEEMS LIKE MOST PEOPLE ARE ENJOYING THESE SHOWS AS MUCH AS WE ARE - IF THAT'S POSSIBLE?!!

THANKS FOR ALL THE ENCOURAGING REVIEWS/POSTS - THIS IS THE REAL FUN...

WE HAVE THE MOST INCREDIBLE FEELING IN THE BAND OFFSTAGE AND ON - THESE CONCERTS ARE MAKING ALL FOUR OF US VERY VERY VERY VERY HAPPY...

AIIIIIEEEEEE!

ANYWAY...
A FEW SMALL THINGS

1
ITS PRETTY UNLIKELY WE WILL INTRODUCE ANY NEW (UNRELEASED) SONGS INTO THE SET IN AUSTRALIA/NZ - I WAS TRYING TO GET THE NEW ALBUM FINISHED RIGHT UP UNTIL WE LEFT SO WE ONLY HAD TIME TO REHEARSE SONGS I REALLY KNEW (?!) (REMEMBERING CHORDS AND WORDS AND STUFF AND GETTING LIGHTS SORTED AND... WELL... IT ALL TAKES TIME!!!) AND ANYWAY: THE POINT OF THIS TRIP FOR US IS ALL ABOUT PLAYING LIVE MUSIC IN A GROUP CALLED THE CURE - REDISCOVERING A FIRE AND A PASSION... AND I THINK WE ARE DOING JUST THAT

2
THERE WILL HOWEVER BE A FEW MORE SURPRISES OVER THE NEXT 5 SHOWS...

3
OBVIOUSLY WHEN WE GET TO THE USA WE WILL HAVE ABOUT 25 MORE SONGS TO PICK AND CHOOSE FROM - INCLUDING LOTS OF NEW ONES!

4
THE NEW ALBUM HAS TO BE JUST RIGHT - WHICH IS WHY ITS TAKING A BIT OF TIME...

BUT IT WILL BE WORTH THE WAIT!

AND...
NO
ITS LATE...

SO
ON...
TO BRISBANE!

Cure to play Mexico City on Oct. 18th:
“THE CURE”
SET TO PERFORM AT “LOS PREMIOS MTV LATINOAMERICA 2007”
TO TAKE PLACE IN MEXICO CITY ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18TH

Previously Announced Performers Include International Pop Star Avril Lavigne and Mexico’s own legendary rock band Cafe Tacuba, to perform
live at the show

Miami, FL, July 27, 2007 – MTV Latin America announced today that English alternative rock legends, The Cure will perform at “Los Premios
MTV Latinoamérica” on Thursday, October 18th at 9pm from “El Palacio de los Deportes” in Mexico City. The announcement comes on the heels of the channel’s press conference in Mexico earlier this week announcing the show.

With over three decades making music, The Cure has been known for their exceptional talent since the late 70’s and for serving as a major influence to many Latin American artists from the 80’s such as “Soda Stereo” and “Caifanes”, as well as with other bands from around the world including “My Chemical Romance” from New Jersey to “The Rasmus” from Helsinki.

One of the first alternative bands to have chart and commercial success, The Cure became not only a musical icon but developed a cult following
around their distinctive image and style. The Cure became an international phenomenon and is one of the most successful alternative bands of our time having released twelve studio albums and over thirty singles, with a thirteenth album in the works.

"We are extremely excited to welcome The Cure to ‘Los Premios MTV’,” said Jose Tillan, Senior Vice President of Music and Content for MTV /
Vh1 Latin America and Executive Producer of Los Premios MTV 2007. “To offer our fans in Latin America such an emblematic and successful band
is tremendous. This year’s show will certainly bring an eclectic mix of musical talent and a performance by ‘The Cure’ is sure to make for an
unforgettable event.”

In 2004, MTV presented a well deserved tribute to the English band when taping MTV Icon: The Cure, which included performances and testimonials from various artists and celebrities that have been influenced directly by the band including “AFI”, “Blink 182” and “The Deftones”, amongst
others. Recently the band’s leader, Robert Smith collaborated with Korn during the Korn MTV Unplugged joining the band for the songs “In Between Days” and “Make Me Bad”.

The Cure has not just gained power in the intermittent punk movement that is currently garnering success with the likes of “Avril Lavigne” in
the pop world, “Panda” in the rock arena and in the never-ending Goth movement among youth, who in the darkest days of their lives have only
renewed their faith in this band, which not only defines itself as a simple genre or style, but rather as a personal and universal influence.

“Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica” reflect the music and attitude of youth in Latin America today, and the show brings together a variety of
regional Latin American pop and rock artists and international acts -- making it a truly unique music experience. The ‘Premios’ ceremony will
air on MTV Latin America to more than 24 countries. In addition, it will be seen on MTV Tr3s in the US and on various select broadcast stations
throughout Latin America.

New remasters in 2008, Documentary DVD in 2009
Tim Pope directed DVD documentary about the band that will be released in 2009, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its debut album, “Three Imaginary Boys.”

“Disintegration” and “Wish” remasters in 2008.

Documentary To Celebrate The Cure’s 30th

July 19, 2007, 3:00 PM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
It’s still two years away, but the Cure frontman Robert Smith is well underway on a DVD documentary about the band that will be released in 2009, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its debut album, “Three Imaginary Boys.”

“This will include interviews with everybody who has ever been in the band, and everybody who has been an important part of the Cure,” Smith reveals to Billboard.com, adding that the interview process will begin shortly.

Smith is hoping to secure the services of longtime Cure video director Tim Pope to assist with the as-yet-untitled project. “Tim has been there from 1982 onward into the mid ’90s,” he says. “We’ve kept in touch and he’s done some things with us since. People will react to him very well in an interview scenario.”

Due to time constraints, the documentary will take on a new life on the band’s Web site, which will feature additional archival footage. “We’re planning on an hour per decade, but there’s at least 20 hours per decade on videotape and other weird formats,” Smith notes.

Also in the pipeline for 2008 are expanded reissues of the vintage Cure albums “Disintegration” and “Wish,” which Smith had to put on hold while finishing the band’s upcoming double-disc set for Suretone/Geffen. He says “Disintegration” will feature a bonus disc of new remixes, and that he’s pushing for “Wish” to include a new 5.1 audio mix.
“People seem to want to kill that off, which is a shame,” he says of that format. “It’s far and away the most fantastic way of listening to music.”

As previously reported, the Cure will tour North America this fall, beginning Sept. 13 in Tampa, Fla.

News about the new album
The Cure Seeing Double On 13th Studio Album

The Cure
July 09, 2007, 12:25 PM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Would one expect anything less than a double album from the Cure on the occasion of its 13th studio release? "Rather than cut it down, at the stage we're at with the band, I'm making this record because I want to enjoy the process and be proud of the finished result," frontman Robert Smith tells Billboard of the as-yet-untitled effort, due in October via Suretone/Geffen. "It isn't a commercial concern for me."

"What will probably happen is that a double album will come out like a limited edition, mixed by me," he continues. "A single-disc version, which I assume will be primarily chosen by the label, might get mixed by someone else in order to have a different thing. There's a concern Cure fans will feel like they have to get both, but the fact is, I've agreed to sell the double version at a single album price, because I feel that strongly about it. It is almost impossible to get a double album nowadays. I naively thought my standing as an artist would push aside all objections, but the world gets ever more commercial as it turns."

Tracks due to make the cut include "Lusting Here in Your Mind" ("It sounds suspiciously like heavy rock to me," Smith says), "The Hungry Ghost," "The Perfect Boy," "Christmas Without You" ("That's not a very happy song," he says) and "Please Come Home."

"There are songs about relationships, the material world, politics and religion. They're very upfront and dynamic," says Smith of the new songs. "People will be surprised how stripped-down and in-your-face the record is."

Smith also trolled through his massive catalog of demos and found three pieces dating back to the '80s that the band revamped. "They've changed quite a lot, but the basic melody and chord structure has remained," he says. "They do have a certain old Cure-ness about them."

As usual, Smith slaved over the lyrics, contributing to a delay in completing the project. "I've gone through so many revisions, probably more than all of the other records put together," he says. "I just wanted to get the tone right to reflect how I am at the age I'm at."

Smith promises the Cure will play new material during its fall North American tour, but not too much. "A lot of people who come to Cure shows want to hear something they haven't heard before, but they also want to hear old songs," he offers. "I enjoy playing them. But the idea of going out and doing a two-and-a-half hour show and including 10 or 12 new songs would actually be really awful, I think. A show is an experience. Anyone coming to a Cure show isn't going to go home and think about buying the album. They've already made their minds up by the fact they've bought a ticket to see us."

June 28, 2007
The Cure -- lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, bass player Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper, and guitarist Porl Thompson -- have announced that they will be releasing their 13th studio album.

After a series of re-released albums and Festival 2005, a 155-minute DVD that consists of 30 live songs filmed by their fans, crew and "on-the-night-big-screen-cameras" last November, The Cure are already in the process of putting their finishing touches to the as-yet-titled album.

According to the official press release, the album has been recorded in the U.K. with Robert Smith on the producing helm and will be released on Suretone/Geffen this fall.

Smith seeks cure for writers' block
COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Thirty years in the music business is no prevention for writers' block.

That is the problem facing The Cure frontman Robert Smith, who is struggling to come up with lyrics to some of the 33 new songs the band has recorded for its 14th studio album.

The record's release has already been pushed back to May and the group goes on tour in March, so the pressure is on for the 47-year-old, who does not want to his legacy to be an ageing band that gradually fades into the background.

"I want them (the words) to mean something, it's not enough that they rhyme," Smith told Reuters in a recent interview. "I find myself stopping short and thinking I've done this before, and better.

"I've given myself a deadline to finish the words before Christmas. If I don't I should be shot," he said.

Smith founded The Cure in 1976 and made an early splash with tight three-minute post-punk songs like "Boys Don't Cry".

Adding keyboards and layered guitars, he developed a taste for epic arrangements and took the band to the top of the charts in the 1980s with dark albums of melancholic grandeur like "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" and "Disintegration" that also contained snappy pop hits like "Just Like Heaven" and "Lovesong".

His confessional lyrics made it acceptable for male rock singers to express feelings of vulnerability, and opened the path to a plethora of "emo" bands like Thursday or minimalist 1980s revival bands like Interpol.

The new album is shaping up to be a mix of mournful songs alongside more energetic and upbeat cuts.

"I tend to favour this option, more in the style of the 'Kiss Me' album, with different things happening instead of being a mood piece," Smith said. "But the art of that is to get it to all hang together."

For the first time in more than two decades, the band has no keyboard player after Roger O'Donnell quit last year. Original Cure guitarist Porl Thompson -- married to Smith's younger sister -- has returned for a third stint in the band.

"There's no need for keyboards when you have Porl playing guitar," Smith said. "He can pretty much create any sound you want. He's brought back a sense of urgency and we've got a rock edge again."

Bassist Simon Gallup, in the band on-and-off since 1979, and Jason Cooper, on drums since 1995, round up the ensemble.

"Being a four-piece is getting back to a stripped-down stage look and sound," Smith said.

"The fact that we can turn out anywhere with very little equipment and play is the old idea of The Cure. It's less grand than things we've done in the past, but we're still planning to play for three hours."

DON'T CALL ME GOTH

Smith's dishevelled hair, thick eyeliner and smeared lipstick earned him a reputation as leader of the gloomy goth rock movement in the press, a type-casting he has long battled to little effect.

"It's so pitiful when 'goth' is still tagged onto the name The Cure," he said.

"We're not categorisable. I suppose we were post-punk when we came out, but in total it's impossible. How can you describe a band that put out an album like 'Pornography' and also 'Greatest Hits' where every single song was top 10 around the world? I just play Cure music, whatever that is."

The makeup is part of his performance ritual.

"Performing doesn't come that naturally to me even though I've done it for years," he said. "Perhaps not as badly applied and not as obvious, but for thousands of years people have worn makeup on stage."

Fans can get an early glimpse of the band's new look and sound on a DVD released this week. "Festival 2005" was recorded during nine shows in Europe last year and mixes professional camera work with amateur footage shot by fans.

"It was never planned," Smith said. "By the time we did the final show in Istanbul we had 13 cameras, but at the first show we only had one. It was directed by serendipity, and it was kind of thrown together."

The DVD features 30 songs, one for each of the years Smith has been performing with The Cure.

"I'm genuinely surprised at people's reaction when we play shows, it's hard to ignore it," he said. "It's gratifying to know that people still want The Cure to exist. We're an old band playing to a young audience."

As long as he can still command that audience and perform for three hours, Smith said he wouldn't retire.

"I'm aware that time is moving on," he said. "I don't want The Cure to fizzle out doing 45-minute shows of greatest hits. That would be awful for our legacy."

No delay for the US release of The Top, HOTD, Kiss Me and Blue Sunshine remasters:
"While the European releases appear to have been bumped a week, the US release of all 3 new Cure reissues and The Glove album, are on schedule. In fact, we just received our first shipment today and will begin shipping immediately so that customers receive them on release date.

And a side note: the last time we offered a promo poster incentive for buying all 3 Cure reissues, we sold out of posters the day before release date. We recommend that those who want the poster for this set of reissues order ASAP.

And here's an article about the remasters.

Suretone Records, The Cure's new record label
There nothing spectacular about it, they're not leaving geffen, it's a new rock-label co-owned by Geffen and Interscope. The bad news is that the new album won't be out until the end of the year...
Another delayed Cure album, what a suprise :)

Artists including The Cure, Avril Lavigne and the Black Eyed Peas are to cover songs by John Lennon as part of a fundraiser for human rights group Amnesty International.

Amnesty said Thursday that the first four tracks would be released on Dec. 10, International Human Rights Day. They include the Black Eyed Peas' version of ""Power to the People,"" The Cure's take on ""Love,"" ""solation"" performed by British band Snow Patrol and ""Grow Old With Me" by The Postal Service.

More songs, including one by Lavigne, are due for release in the new year as part of Amnesty's Make Some Noise campaign. A compilation album also will be released next year.

Steve Severin has sent out an e-mail update on the Siouxsie/Glove remastered cds:
"Robert and I are trying to fit in the Glove remaster. He's been out doing festivals for the summer but he mailed last week and said he was back on it. Once we really start to concentrate on it it should go really fast. There are only two of us and it's only one album and Robert has been doing this for his own releases so he knows the score."

The Cure will be performing for the Live 8 event -in France!
The Cure will be closing the French Live 8 Show July 2nd at the Palais De Versailles near Paris - "We are very happy to be a part of this historic event."

The show will be broadcasted by BBC in the UK and SVT (commercial free) in Sweden so it will probably be shown on a TV-channel near you...
Since they will be closing the Versailles show, my GUESS is that they will start somewhere at 9-11 PM GMT. -Why not 10:15 -it's on a Saturday! ;)

The Cure is now a trio....
Roger O'Donnell, Perry Bamonte and Daryl Bamonte are no longer with The Cure.

Roger has these news on his website:
"As of Tuesday this week I am no longer a member of The Cure
I have prepared an official statement which will be released when
timely. It was sad to find out after nearly 20 years the way I did but
then I should have expected no less or more. I will try and reply
to every email of support I receive but if I don't get to yours,
THANK YOU. The fans have always been very important to
me and will remain so."

And some good news:
The Cure won't be touring Britain until next year, UK Channel 4 Teletext - "PS NEWS" can reveal.
Although they're playing festivals in Europe, Robert Smith told PS: "I want to bring the Curiosa event here next year. I spent a lot of time researching the bill last year for America. I DON'T HAVE THE TIME NOW, WE'RE DOING A NEW LP."

And:
Robert Smith has won the "Ivor Novello Award" for International Achievement.
